What is Eczema?

It is a name given to a group of conditions that cause the skin to become red, itchy and inflamed. It is a very common condition that is easily curable. Eczema word is inspired by a Greek word meaning “to boil over”, which is justified because it causes red inflamed, itchy patches that occur during flare-ups. It can range from mild, moderate to severe.

Cause of eczema

The exact cause of eczema hasn’t yet been identified. It is thought to be linked with the body’s immune systems overactive response to an outside irritant. It is also believed that eczema is found in families who have a history of allergies or asthma. Some people suffer from “flare-ups” or sudden rashes in response to certain substances or conditions.

Types of eczema

Although there are several types of eczema, a person can suffer from more than one type at a time. Itching and redness are caused by all types of Eczema but some of them cause blisters also. These are some common types of Eczema:

  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Contact dermatitis
  • Dyshidrotic eczema
  • Nummular eczema
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • Stasis dermatitis

  • Calcarea Carbonica

This is used for people who have chilly and clammy hands and feet. These people develop eczema and cracking skin that becomes worse in wintertime.
